Meatout
Feeds & Educates Hundreds
at DC Anti-War Rally
Wednesday,
March 19th, 2008

Meatout
2008 coincided with the 5th anniversary of
the U.S. invasion of Iraq. The massive anti-war
rally in the nation's capital, organized by United
for Peace & Justice, No
War, No Warming and other environmental
and social justice groups, provdied a unique
opportunity to promote non-violence toward
ALL beings.
FARM
staff and volunteers
participated in the
Mass Day of Action,
publicizing the benefits
of a vegan diet and
promoting a culture
of non-violence to
peace activists and
DC passersby at the
event. A Meatout info
table offered free
Veg Starter Guides, Compassion
Over Killing's DC Guide
to Veg Eating,
Meatout pledge
sign-up sheets,
food coupons and
more. Leafleters
distributed FARM's
peace
handouts. Large signs
and banners carried
the message
of a non-violent
diet.
Free
Vegan Food!
What better way to demonstrate the
many benefits
of a plant-based diet
than with irresistible
vegan food?
Flocks
of curious demonstrators approached the Meatout
table to sample some
of the best alternatives to meat and
dairy
on the market. Serving Tofurky sandwiches
with Vegenaise, FARM distributed
food to
500 people!
Event
attendees also snacked
on local goodies
from DC's own veg
restaurant Java
Green, sampling
mock chicken drumsticks,
sandwiches and more.
Hearty Primal
Sticks were
a big hit among hungry
peace activists, who
grabbed samples to
go during the demos.
Veterans
for Peace were eager to try the vegan
snacks as they marched
by the Meatout table.
FARM staff and volunteers
made the rounds throughout
the event, walking
through demos with
food samples and handouts. With a sign
reading "Choose Peace
with Every Bite...
Go Vegan!", Meatout
was represented in
the massive march
through DC streets.
Thanks to United
for Peace & Justice and others, we
were able to spread
the message of compassion
and educate others
about a culture of
non-violence. A culture
of non-violence excludes
war and extends
the circle of compassion
to include animals,
the world's poor, and
plant Earth. Meatout
2008 is proud to have
encouraged people to
take the first step
towards achieving a
peaceful, non-violent
culture by going vegan.
Non-violence begins
at breakfast!
