NEW HAMPSHIRE SUPPORTS MEATOUT 2010

Governor John H. Lynch proclaimed March 20th as Great American Meatout Day/Nutrition Awareness Day in New Hampshire and urged all citizens to “explore a wholesome diet of whole grains, vegetables, and fresh fruits.”

Meatout outreach activities are taking place in all 50 states and 31 other countries. For details, please visit www.meatout.org/events.

Representatives Hodes and Shea-Porter are strong supporters of federal animal protection legislation.

New Hampshire consumers are increasingly transitioning to a plant-based diet because of their concerns about the health, environmental, and animal welfare issues associated with production and consumption of animal products.

Consumer and animal protection advocates in a thousand communities in all 50 states and 31 other countries welcoming spring on or around March 20th with educational events promoting plant-based eating. These range from colorful ‘lifestivals’ to public dinners, cooking demonstrations, mass feed-ins, classroom presentations, and information tables. They are asking their friends and neighbors to “kick the meat habit, at least for a day, and explore a more wholesome, non violent diet of grains, vegetables, legumes, and fruits.” They are getting restaurants and supermarkets to expand their selection of vegan foods.

The occasion is the 25th anniversary of the Great American Meatout, the world’s largest and longest-running grassroots diet education campaign. The purpose is to educate consumers about the many benefits of a healthful, nonviolent plant-based diet. Radio shows, billboards, bus ads, TV ads, and letters to editors in major cities throughout the U.S. also broadcast the Meatout message.

This year’s slogan is “Eat for Life – Live Vegan!” For past official proclamations, visit www.meatout.org/media/proclamations.htm.
